Freestyle Walking 2005: Bring on the Pain
by Jaybird
4/27/05

As one would expect, Freestyle Walking always brings minor injuries to those who participate.  It's just normal to wake up the next day with a little soreness or ache in one part of your body or another.  Jumping high in the air and landing on the ground just takes a toll on your body every now and then.  It just comes with the sport.  But there are those days that bring a little more pain than others.  The days where the pain builds up more and more after each trick.  Days when it seems that every time you land it hurts.  This story is about two such days.  Two days which easily add up as the two most injury filled days in our FSW history.  Two days that left Freestyle Walkers Matt and Jaybird in immense pain... but was it worth it?  Of course it was worth it.  With the pain brought two great days of Freestyle Walking...

Beginning the 4th year of FSW, it is much harder to find new locations.  The FSWers have been to pretty much every school they could think of and more places they just happened to find.  It started to seem bleak when it came to new schools, until Matt and Jaybird stumbled upon the perfect companion to their FSW events... a map of The Federal Way Public Schools!

Cha Ching!

Even with a map like this, Matt and Jaybird realize they've been to nearly 3/4 of the schools, but that leaves many still unexplored.  They decide to first go to the High School that is, Todd Beamer...

At first glance Todd Beamer didn't seem to have much potential, but as Matt and Jaybird drove around to the back, it revealed a good amount of trick potential.  There were lots of stairs and rails just ready to be jumped off of.  Matt went for the first strike!  He runs, jumps, and does a 180!... directly onto the cement border...

Injury #1 - Matt - Left Foot

Matt going insane

Up next, Jaybird went for a jump off of the same spot.

What a weird screenshot...

Jaybird moved up a little further and went for a big grab over the bushes...

And then dies.

In all honesty, Jaybird didn't get hurt on this trick.  He was just being stupid and pretending to be hurt!  What a stupid kid.

Jaybird currently resides in Seattle where he reads comics, works in a library, and writes for this site.  He has also been known to blow your mind, rock your world, and eat pizza.
